Shop ▪ Volunteer ▪ Donate ▪ Hire
Mary Durham Boutique is run by students, staff, and community volunteers, and offers a sustainable component by selling gently used brand name women’s clothing at affordable prices while training women to become work ready. The training enables women with minimal or no work experience to gain marketable skills while getting hands on training in customer service, point of sale, inventory, computer and math skills, displays, marketing and publicity.
Check us out on Facebook, or stop by and visit the boutique with a mission!
By shopping, volunteering, or donating clothing to the Mary Durham Boutique, you are keeping our community green while also supporting individuals to become more self-sufficient.
Donation forms for clothing are available as a Word document or PDF (click on either to get the form)
HISTORY OF MARY DURHAM
Mary was an activist devoted to helping the community at large and those who faced economic and social hardships. She taught English as a second language, counseled young people, and strove to help people grow in the ways they wanted to develop. In 1990, at the age of 90, she developed a plan and raised funds to create the Department of Spiritual Care at Cayuga Medical Center. The following year the Ithaca Sunrise Rotary Club recognized her work, and named her a Paul Harris Fellow for “service above self.”
The Women’s Opportunity Center is fortunate that her children have followed her example. When Mary passed away she left her home in downtown Ithaca to her children. They, in turn, chose to donate the house to the Women's Opportunity Center, an organization that would continue to carry out some of their mother’s dreams and ambitions.
We are privileged to have the opportunity to expand our services and we express our deepest appreciation to the Durham Family for their generosity.
