<p><span>Over $265,000 has been raised for local nonprofit organizations at the seven previous Ithaca Alternative Gift Fairs.</span></p>
<p class="style8"><span>WHAT IS AN ALTERNATIVE GIFT FAIR?</span> <br /><span>The Ithaca Alternative Gift Fair is a fun way to bypass the annual stress of holiday shopping and "stuff" accumulation while honoring friends and relatives with donations to causes that fit their values. What's more, the Ithaca Alternative Gift Fair provides critical support for a diverse collection of community organizations whose work has local, national, and international reach.. Last year's gift fair earned more than $66,000 for the participating organizations.</span></p>

<br /><br /></div>]]></description><wfw:commentRss>http://womensopportunity.org/home/rss-comments-entry-12553382.xml</wfw:commentRss></item><item><title>Winter 2010: Women’s Opportunity Center Loses $681,618 of State Funding</title><dc:creator>Celia</dc:creator><pubDate>Thu, 04 Aug 2011 19:28:06 +0000</pubDate><link>http://womensopportunity.org/home/2011/8/4/winter-2010-womens-opportunity-center-loses-681618-of-state.html</link><guid isPermaLink="false">514936:5900850:12393642</guid><description><![CDATA[<p>For the past nine years, the Women&rsquo;s Opportunity Center received funding from the SUNY&nbsp;Research Foundation to operate the New York State Bridge Program, also known as the New York State Welfare to Work Program.&nbsp; The Bridge Program served heads of families who were living&nbsp; under the 200% Federal poverty guideline and assisted them to obtain employment.&nbsp; This program has been completely eliminated from the current New York State Budget.&nbsp; Our Displaced Homemaker Program funds have also been reduced by 50%.&nbsp; Our total loss from these programs this year is $681,618.&nbsp; At current funding levels, the center will&nbsp; be able to serve only 214 individuals this year, leaving an estimated 529 job-seekers without access to our services.&nbsp; With more job-seekers requiring assistance in the upcoming year, we will be unable to provide individualized services without generous financial support from our community.&nbsp; Please do&nbsp;everything you can to help.
